Why rotate PDF pages instead of just turning the view?
Most PDF readers have a rotate button, but it usually changes only your screen. Close the file, send it to someone, and the page is sideways again.
FileKiwi changes the page orientation inside the PDF. The fixed file opens the right way up for your teacher, your bank, your printer and any upload portal. Reviewers do not have to tilt their heads or rotate the view themselves.
This matters for printing too. A printer follows the orientation saved in the file, so a page fixed only on screen can still come out sideways on paper. Fixing it in the PDF solves both problems at once.
Common rotation problems and the fix
| What you see | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Text runs from bottom to top | Phone held sideways while scanning | Rotate that page 90 degrees |
| Page is upside down | Paper fed into the scanner the wrong way | Rotate 180 degrees |
| Wide table is squeezed onto a tall page | Landscape sheet saved in portrait | Rotate 90 degrees so it reads across |
| Every other page is upside down | Two sided scan with flipped back pages | Select those pages and rotate 180 degrees |
Rotating does not crop, resize or recompress anything. Only the direction of the page changes, so you can safely rotate a signed contract or an official certificate without touching its content.
Finish the document
Before you download, scroll through all thumbnails once more. Long scans often hide a single flipped page in the middle, and it is easy to miss on a small phone screen.
Rotation is often one step in tidying up a scan. After fixing the direction, remove empty pages with Delete PDF Pages, or join several fixed files using Merge PDF. If the finished document is too heavy for email, Compress PDF will make it smaller.
