Common reasons to convert PNG to PDF
Screenshots pile up fast, and a folder of files named Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2 and so on is hard for anyone else to follow. One PDF fixes that.
- Support tickets and bug reports: show each step that led to an error in the right order.
- How to guides: send a coworker or relative a visual walkthrough of an app or setting.
- Proof and records: save order confirmations, payment screens or chat messages as one document.
- Design reviews: collect mockups, icons or charts into a file a client can open anywhere.
Teachers and students use it too, for example to hand in screenshots of an online exercise as a single assignment.
PNG or JPG inside a PDF?
| PNG | JPG | |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Lossless, no detail lost | Lossy, small details can blur |
| Best content | Screenshots, text, charts, logos | Camera photos |
| File size | Larger for photos | Smaller for photos |
For screenshots, keep the PNG. It gives the sharpest text in your PDF. For a document built from camera photos, the JPG to PDF tool is usually the better match.
Tips for clean screenshot PDFs
Trim toolbars and personal details before converting with Crop Image. Fit to image is the best page size for screenshots because each page keeps the exact shape of the screen, without white bars.
Full screen captures from a large monitor can make a heavy PDF. If you need to email it, shrink it afterwards with Compress PDF.
Phone screenshots are tall and narrow. If you print them on A4 or US Letter, Auto orientation keeps them portrait, and a small margin stops the printer from trimming the status bar or the bottom buttons. Name the PDF clearly, for example with the app and the date, so it is easy to find later.
