How to Convert PNG to PDF and Keep Screenshots Sharp
Turn PNG screenshots, charts and diagrams into one PDF on Windows, Mac or your phone. Built in options, the right page size, and how to avoid cropped or blurry pages.
Here is how to convert PNG to PDF: add the PNG files to a PDF converter or print them to a PDF printer, set the page size and order, and save one PDF. Windows 11, macOS and iPhone all have a built in way to do it, and a browser tool such as FileKiwi works the same on every device.
PNG is the format most screenshots, charts and exported diagrams use. The goal is usually a document someone can scroll through, with every label still sharp, so the method you choose should not blur or crop the images.
What makes PNG to PDF different from photos
A phone photo is a JPG or HEIC full of soft detail, and a little compression goes unnoticed. A PNG is usually a screenshot or a graphic with thin lines, flat colors and small text. That content shows compression damage quickly: faint blotches around letters and fuzzy edges on tables.
- PNG is lossless. The best result keeps it that way inside the PDF instead of turning it into a JPG.
- Screenshots have odd shapes. A phone screenshot is tall and narrow, a monitor screenshot is wide. Forcing them onto A4 paper leaves wide white margins or tiny text.
- PNG can be transparent. A PDF page is white by default, so transparent parts of a logo or icon appear white. White text on a transparent background can disappear.
When people need screenshots as a PDF
- Bug reports and support tickets. A developer or help desk can scroll through the steps that led to an error, in order, in one attachment.
- Proof of payment. Banking apps often show a confirmation screen with no download button. A screenshot saved as a PDF is easier to file and forward.
- Setup guides. A few annotated screenshots turn into a short manual for a parent with a new phone or a colleague on their first day.
- Records of conversations. Chat messages, booking confirmations and order pages can be kept as one dated document.
- Charts and diagrams. Exported graphs from a spreadsheet or a design app become printable pages for a report or a class.

How to convert PNG to PDF online
The FileKiwi tool runs in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone and Android, so the steps are the same everywhere.
- Open PNG to PDF.
- Drag your PNG files onto the page, or tap to choose them.
- Drag the thumbnails into the order you want. The first image becomes page 1.
- Choose a page size, an orientation and a margin.
- Press Create PDF and download the file.
Each PNG is placed in the PDF without JPG compression, so text and lines look the same as in the original screenshot. Only images longer than 4000 pixels on one side are scaled down to that size. The PDF is built in your browser; a copy of each PNG you add is uploaded over HTTPS, kept in a private folder for 30 days and then deleted, and the finished PDF is not stored.
This page accepts PNG only. To mix PNG screenshots with JPG or HEIC photos in one document, use Image to PDF, which has the same options.
Which page settings to choose
| Goal | Page size | Orientation | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Read on screen, bug report, chat history | Fit to image | Auto | None |
| Print at home or in an office in Europe or Asia | A4 | Auto | Small |
| Print in the US or Canada | US Letter | Auto | Small |
| Wide desktop screenshots for printing | A4 or US Letter | Landscape | Small |

How to convert PNG to PDF on Windows 11
Windows 11 includes a virtual printer called Microsoft Print to PDF. Instead of paper, it writes a PDF file.
One PNG with the Photos app
- Open the PNG in Photos.
- Press Ctrl + P to open the print dialog.
- Choose Microsoft Print to PDF as the printer.
- Pick paper size and orientation, then click Print.
- Type a file name, choose a folder and click Save.
Several PNG files from File Explorer
- Select the PNG files in File Explorer.
- Right click and choose Print. If you do not see it, choose Show more options first.
- In the Print Pictures window, set the printer to Microsoft Print to PDF.
- Choose Full page photo in the layout list.
- Click Print, then name and save the PDF.
Look for the Fit picture to frame option in the Print Pictures window. When it is on, Windows fills the page by cutting off the edges of each image, which can remove the top or bottom of a tall screenshot. Turn it off to see the whole image.
How to convert PNG to PDF on a Mac
One PNG with Preview
- Open the PNG in Preview.
- Choose File, then Export.
- Open the Format menu and choose PDF.
- Click Save.
The page takes the exact size of the image, with no margins, which is ideal for reading on screen.
Several PNG files
The fastest way is in Finder. Select the files, right click (or Control click), choose Quick Actions and then Create PDF. macOS combines them into one PDF in the same folder.
Rename the files with numbers first, such as 01 login.png and 02 error.png, so they land in the right order.
For control over paper size, open all the PNG files in one Preview window, select every thumbnail in the sidebar, then choose File, then Print. Pick the paper size, open the PDF menu in the lower left corner and choose Save as PDF.
Screenshots to PDF on iPhone and Android
iPhone
Screenshots live in the Photos app, but the PDF tools are in Files. Move them there first.
- In Photos, select the screenshots, tap Share and choose Save to Files.
- Open the Files app and go to that folder.
- Tap the More button (three dots), tap Select and choose the screenshots.
- Tap More in the bottom corner, then Create PDF.
On iOS 26 and later, the Preview app can also open a single image and export it as a PDF through its Export option. For many screenshots in a set order, the browser tool in Safari is easier, because you drag them into place before the PDF is made.
Android
Many Android phones can print to a PDF: open an image, choose Print from the menu, then set the printer to Save as PDF. Menu names differ between brands and gallery apps, and not every app offers Print. The browser tool in Chrome works on every phone and keeps all screenshots in one file.
Tips for a clean screenshot PDF
- Crop before converting. Remove status bars, notifications and personal details from screenshots first. Once inside a PDF, they are harder to remove.
- Keep the order obvious. Number the files or drag them into the order things happened. A support team reads a bug report from top to bottom.
- Watch the file size. Lossless PNG pages are heavier than JPG pages. If the PDF is too big for an email or an upload form, run it through PDF compression after you check it.
- Keep the originals. Hold on to the PNG files until you have opened the PDF and checked every page. If a page is wrong, you can rebuild the file in a minute.
- Text is not searchable. A screenshot is an image, so the words on it cannot be selected or found with search in the PDF. Paste any important text, such as an error message, into your email as well.
Which method to pick
For one PNG on a computer, the built in tools are enough: Photos with Microsoft Print to PDF on Windows, or Export in Preview on a Mac. For several screenshots on a Mac or iPhone, Create PDF in Finder or Files is quick if the file names are in order.
When you want the PNG quality kept exactly, a page size that matches each screenshot, or the same steps on every device, convert in the browser and check the PDF once before sending it.
FAQ
How do I convert PNG to PDF for free?
Open FileKiwi PNG to PDF in any browser, add your PNG files, drag them into order and choose a page size. Press Create PDF and download the file. There is no signup and no watermark. On Windows you can also print the PNG to Microsoft Print to PDF, and on a Mac use Export in Preview.
How do I combine several screenshots into one PDF?
Add all the screenshots to a PNG to PDF converter, drag them into the right order and create one PDF. On a Mac, select them in Finder and use Quick Actions, then Create PDF. On iPhone, save them to the Files app, select them and tap Create PDF.
Does converting PNG to PDF reduce quality?
It depends on the method. FileKiwi places each PNG in the PDF without JPG compression, so text and lines stay as sharp as the original. Print to PDF options may scale or crop the image to fit the paper, so check the result, and choose a page size that matches the image when you read on screen.
Why does my PNG look cut off in the PDF?
The image was scaled to fill the paper and the edges were cropped. In the Windows Print Pictures window, turn off Fit picture to frame. In a converter, choose Fit to image as the page size, or pick A4 or Letter with a margin so the whole screenshot fits on the page.
What happens to transparent areas of a PNG in a PDF?
PDF pages are white by default, so transparent parts of a PNG usually appear white. That is fine for screenshots and most logos. A logo with white text on a transparent background can become invisible, so put it on a colored background before you convert it.
