The background and face tools use AI models that run on your device. The background model is about 44 MB, so the first photo takes longer while it downloads. After that it is cached.
For a strict upload form, size presets for 20 KB, 50 KB and 100 KB find the highest quality that still fits the limit. They reduce the pixel dimensions only when quality alone is not enough.
A good order for editing photos
When one picture needs several fixes, this order keeps quality high and files small.
- Rotate or flip first if the photo is sideways or mirrored, then crop so you only keep the part you need.
- Fix the background or blur faces next, while the photo still has full detail. Remove Background is a good place to start.
- Resize to the dimensions the website or form asks for.
- Compress last, once. Use Compress Image or a size preset like 50 KB.
