How to Delete a Page from a PDF on Mac, Windows and Phone
A blank scan page, an outdated appendix, a page with your bank details: how to remove pages from a PDF on every device, and what to check once they are gone.
How to delete a page from a PDF: open the file in a tool that shows every page as a thumbnail, select the pages you do not want, remove them and save the result. On a Mac, Preview does this with the Delete key. On Windows, iPhone, Android or any other device, a browser tool such as FileKiwi Delete PDF Pages works the same way everywhere.
Below are the exact steps for each system, followed by the details people often miss: blank scan pages, page numbers that no longer match, and whether a removed page is really gone.
Delete a page from a PDF on Mac with Preview
Preview, the viewer that comes with every Mac, can remove pages without any extra app. These steps follow Apple's guide for macOS Tahoe 26, and the menus have looked the same for many versions.
- Open the PDF in Preview.
- Choose View > Thumbnails to show the page sidebar. View > Contact Sheet shows all pages in a large grid instead, which helps with long files.
- Click the page you want to remove. To select several, hold Command and click each one.
- Press the Delete key, or choose Edit > Delete.
- Close the window or choose File > Save.
Preview saves changes automatically, so the file is changed in place. To keep the full version as well, choose File > Duplicate before you start, or bring it back later with File > Revert To > Browse All Versions.
Annotations on a deleted page, such as highlights or notes, are removed together with the page. The full steps are in Apple's Preview guide.

Delete pages from a PDF on Windows 11
Windows 11 has no built in PDF editor, and Microsoft Edge, the default PDF viewer, cannot delete pages. It can, however, print a copy that contains only the pages you choose, using the Microsoft Print to PDF printer that ships with Windows.
- Open the PDF in Edge or Chrome and press Ctrl + P.
- In Edge, open the Printer list and choose Microsoft Print to PDF (or Save as PDF). In Chrome, set Destination to Save as PDF.
- Under Pages, choose Custom and type the pages you want to keep, separated by commas. To drop page 3 of a 6 page file, type 1, 2, 4, 5, 6.
- Click Print or Save, then pick a folder and a file name.
For a long run of pages, type the first and last number joined by a hyphen instead of listing every page. This method has limits: links, bookmarks and fillable form fields often do not survive printing, and a PDF that blocks printing cannot be saved this way at all.
Delete a PDF page on iPhone and Android
iPhone with iOS 26
iOS 26 added the Preview app to the iPhone, and it can remove pages directly.
- Open the Preview app and tap the PDF.
- Tap the page count to show thumbnails. If the page count is not visible, pinch two fingers together or apart on the page.
- Touch and hold the thumbnail of the page you want to remove.
- Tap Delete Page.
Made a mistake? Tap the More button, then tap Undo. Preview edits the file itself, so tap the menu next to the file name and choose Duplicate first if you want to keep the original.
Older iOS versions have no Preview app, and the page options in the Files viewer differ from version to version. If you cannot find a delete option there, use the browser method below in Safari.
Android
Android has no standard page editor. The PDF viewer you get depends on the phone brand and on apps such as Google Drive, and their menus are not the same. A browser tool in Chrome gives you identical steps on every Android phone, with no app to install.
How to delete a page from a PDF with FileKiwi
The Delete PDF Pages tool runs in any modern browser, so the steps are the same on a work PC, a Mac, an iPhone or an Android phone.
- Open the tool and drop your PDF on the page, or tap to choose it from your files.
- Every page appears as a thumbnail in a grid. Click or tap each page you want to remove, and it is dimmed.
- Tapped the wrong page? Tap it again to bring it back.
- Download the new PDF.
The pages you keep stay in their order, size and quality, because they are copied into the new file without being compressed again. At least one page has to remain, and your original file is not changed.
Page removal runs in your browser. A copy of the PDF you add is also uploaded over HTTPS to a private folder on the FileKiwi server and deleted automatically after 30 days, while the shorter PDF is not stored.
PDFs with an open password or editing restrictions are refused, because changing them would produce a broken file. Our guide on how to remove a password from a PDF explains what to do first.
Removing blank pages from scanned PDFs
Blank pages are one of the most common reasons to delete pages at all. A scanner set to two sided mode captures the empty back of every sheet, so a 10 page letter turns into a 20 page file.
- Fix the cause: for single sided paper, turn off two sided (duplex) scanning in the scanner or scan app. The next scan will not need any cleanup.
- Mark them in one pass: in a thumbnail grid, blank pages show up as plain white tiles. Scroll through once and mark them all before you download.
- Look twice at almost blank pages: a back page with faint marks showing through from the front can look empty in a thumbnail, but it may also hold a short note or a signature. Open it at full size when in doubt.
Removing extra scan pages also makes the file smaller. If it is still over an upload limit, run it through Compress PDF.
What changes after you delete pages
The removed page is gone from the new file
A deleted page is not copied into the PDF you save, so whoever receives the new file cannot see or recover it. That makes deleting a sound way to share a contract without the page that shows your salary or bank details.
The old full version still exists wherever it was before: your Downloads folder, an earlier email, or the version history in Preview. Send the new file, and keep or delete the original on purpose.
Deleting works on whole pages only
To hide one line, such as an account number, you need redaction, not a page remover. Drawing a black box over text in a viewer does not delete the text underneath. On a Mac, Preview has a Redaction Selection tool in the Markup toolbar that removes selected text from view for good once you close the document.
Printed page numbers do not update
If the pages already carry printed numbers, deleting page 4 leaves a jump from 3 to 5. For a document that will be read by others, remove pages first and add page numbers last. A clickable table of contents can also point to the wrong page afterwards, so test a few links before you send the file.
Which method to pick
| Device | Built in way | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Mac | Preview: View > Thumbnails, then the Delete key | Changes the file itself, so duplicate it first |
| Windows 11 | Print to PDF with a Custom page list | Links and form fields may be lost |
| iPhone | Preview app on iOS 26: Delete Page | Older iOS versions have no Preview app |
| Android | Depends on the phone and viewer app | Menus differ between brands |
| Any device | FileKiwi Delete PDF Pages in the browser | Thumbnails, original left as it is |
On a Mac, Preview is the quickest choice for a file you are allowed to change. On Windows and Android, or when you want the original untouched, the browser tool saves you from typing page lists.
If you want to keep only 3 pages out of 80, deleting 77 pages is slow. Select the pages you need with Extract PDF Pages instead. When your files are clean, you can join them again with the steps in how to merge PDF files.
FAQ
How do I delete a page from a PDF for free?
On a Mac, open the PDF in Preview, choose View, then Thumbnails, select the page and press Delete. On any device, you can open FileKiwi Delete PDF Pages in the browser, tap the pages to remove and download the new file. Both are free, and the browser tool needs no account.
How do I remove blank pages from a scanned PDF?
Open the scan in a tool that shows page thumbnails, mark every white page and save a new copy. Blank pages usually come from two sided scanning of single sided paper, so switch off duplex mode in your scanner settings to avoid them next time. Check almost blank pages at full size before removing them.
Can I delete pages from a PDF in Microsoft Edge?
Edge cannot delete pages directly. You can press Ctrl + P, choose Microsoft Print to PDF or Save as PDF, set Pages to Custom and type only the pages you want to keep. The result is a new PDF without the other pages, although links and form fields may not carry over.
Why can't I delete pages from my PDF?
The most common reason is protection. A PDF with an open password or editing restrictions blocks page changes in many apps, and FileKiwi refuses it too. Remove the protection first if you own the file or have the right to edit it. On a Mac, also check that the file is not locked in Finder.
Does deleting pages make a PDF smaller?
Usually yes, because the removed pages are not copied into the new file. The effect is biggest with scanned pages and photos, which take far more space than text pages. If the file is still too big for an upload form or email, compress it as a separate step.
